HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 2004-17RESOLUTION ii, RESOLUTIONODCOUNCIL i 6 IP MANAOCR TO M_ 1Mi P BENEFITS PROGRAM -M1 i MF A GRANT TO FUND LODI'S 2 N11 ANNUAL GET GREEN WEEKEND EVENT WHEREAS, the state hes mandated that beginning January 1, 1998, the City of Lodi is obligated to fund various programs t rough a Public Benefits Charge (PSC) based on an historical electric revenue requirement-, and WH REAS, the requirement amounts to approximately $1 million per year that must be dedicated to qualifying programs such as energy efficiency. A further stipulation is that these efforts must be done on the customer's side of the meter in order to qualify; and WHEREAS, nodi Municipal Code §3.20.070 authorizes dispensing with bids for purchases of supplies, services, or equipment when it is in the best interest of the City to do so; and The Lodi Green Mower Project will work as follows: on Saturday, March 13, 2004, from 7.09 a.m. to noon, Lodi residents may purchase one (1)24 -volt, electric rechargeable lawn mower, manufactured by Mack .Deck r (the event will b held in the front parking lot of Temple Baptist Church, located at 801 S. Lower Sacramento:Road); ➢ to participate, residents must shove a current California drivers license, be a resident of Lodi, and also present a City of Lodi utility bill; > to participate, residents must turn -in a gas-fired lawn mower to receive the $200.00 voucher for purchase of the new, Black & Decker 24 -volt, electric rechargeable lawn mower (the gas-fired mower must first be drained of oil and gasoline prior to the larch 13, 2004 event); A participating residents must purchase the new electric rechargeable lawn mower during the event on March 13, 2004; fifty (0) Mack & Decker 24 -volt, electric rechargeable lawn mowers will be available that day for purchase; and ➢ in addition to the fifty (50) Black & Becker 24 -volt, electric rechargeable fawn mowers, the City of Lodi wilf provide ten (10) additional rebates, $ 00.00 relate per unit, for Lodi residents to purchase an electric rechargeable lawn ,cower from participating Lodi retailers that sell a 24 -volt, electric rechargeable lawn mover, or equivalentequipment; and ➢ eligible customers will also have the opportunity to purchase one (1) electric rechargeable lawn/edge trimmer 'manufactured by Mack & Decker; the rebate is $50,00 on the day of the event, and a total of fifty (50) units will be available for purchase on March 13, 2004. WHEREAS, City of Lodi Electric Utility will partner with Sims.Metal of Stockton to haul away and properly recycle the used, gas-fired lawn mowers; and WHEREAS, staff further recommends partnering with Black & Decker Corporation, which will provide the fifty (50) 24 -volt electric rechargeable lawn mowers and the lawn/edge trimmers, as well as staff for the event; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to provide a Public Benefits Program grant to fund Lodi's 2"d Annual Get Green Weekend event, not to exceed the amount of $25,000.00, and hereby approves the program as presented.
