A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFITS
PROGRAM GRANT — LODI APPLIANCE REBATE PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the state has mandated that beginning January 1, 1998, the City of Lodi is obligated to fund
various programs through a Public Benefits Charge (PBC) based on a historical electric revenue requirement;
and
WHEREAS, the requirement amounts to approximately $1M per year that must be dedicated to
qualifying programs such as energy efficiency. A further stipulation is that these efforts must be done on the
customer's side of the meter in order to qualify; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lodi's Public Benefits Program is comprised of four segments or customer
groups: commercial/industrial, residential, community/non-profit, and municipal; and
WHEREAS, for the past three years, this project has offered rebates for the purchase of designated
appliances, including Energy efficient refrigerators, manual defrost freezers, dishwashers, front-load/EnergyStar-
approved clothes washers, and single -room air conditioners; and
WHEREAS, since June of this year, over 1,250 energy efficient appliances have been purchased and
installed in Lodi homes and businesses.
WHEREAS, the rebate program will be extended until funds are exhausted; and
WHEREAS, specific criteria for this program include:
• Designated energy efficient appliances must be purchased at one of the six participating Lodi
retailers (including Anderson Maytag, Ben's Appliance, FILCO of Lodi, Kundert & Bauer, Les'
Appliance, and Reo's Appliance);
• Customers may receive a rebate for up to five (5) appliances (one rebate per different appliance
type- refrigerator, dishwasher, etc.);
• Customer must be a City of Lodi Utility Customer; and
• Rebate amounts: $50.00 for any/all EnergyStar-rated refrigerator; $50.00 for manual defrost
freezer; $100.00 for front -load or EnergyStar-rated clothes washer; $50.00 for any EnergyStar-
rated dishwasher; and $25.00 for any single -room air conditioner with an energy efficiency
rating of 10.0 or better.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager
to provide a Public Benefits -Program Grant in the amount of $70,000.00 to fund the Lodi Appliance Rebate
Program, specifically designed for Lodi residential electric customers.
