A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF SEQUEL
VIEWPOINT SOFTWARE FOR USE ON THE IBM AS400

WHEREAS, Lodi Municipal Code §3.20.070 authorizes dispensing with bids for
purchases of supplies, services, or equipment when it is in the best interest of the City to do so;
and
WHEREAS, the IBM AS400 computer is the mainframe that stores billing system
transactions as well as financial data among other things for the City of Lodi; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends purchasing Sequel Viewpoint software, a data query tool
for the AS400, from Advanced Systems Concepts, of Schaumburg, IL; and
WHEREAS, data queries are written in order to generate a certain type of report, or to
print checks, among other things; and
WHEREAS, the process currently is very complex and time consuming. The Sequel
Viewpoint software will enable programmers to write queries much faster, allowing reports and
information requests to be handled more expeditiously; and
WHEREAS, typically this software is sold with a six -license minimum, however, City staff
was able to negotiate a four -user license deal if purchased by June 30, 2002, thus saving the
City approximately $5,000.00.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council does hereby
authorize the purchase of Sequel Viewpoint software (four -user license) for the AS400 from
Advanced Systems Concepts, of Schaumburg, IL, in the amount of $10,000.00.
