AGENDA TITLE: Presentation of the Inaugural "Community Improvement Award."
MEETING DATE: January 20, 1999

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the Mayor present property owners Michael and Joanne Meek with a
Community Improvement Award.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In an effort to foster community pride, the City of Lodi's Community
Improvement Division and the Lodi Eastside Improvement Committee
have initiated a program that acknowledges the efforts and positive
accomplishments of property owners, residents, and apartment and
property managers, in combating blight throughout the city.
The Eastside Improvement Committee and the Community Improvement Division have developed this program to
give positive reinforcement throughout the city to those that have maintained and/or improved their residential or
commercial properties in such a manner to make a significant impact and contribution in the fight against blight.
Nominated properties are reviewed by the Eastside Improvement Committee based on the upkeep and general
appearance of buildings, yards, landscaping and fences, as well as any documented improvement in appearance
or conditions on the premises. Properties, and their owners, residents or managers can be nominated by the
general public and by City staff anytime throughout the year by contacting the Lodi Eastside Improvement
Committee or the Community Improvement Division. Those nominations are presented to the Eastside
Improvement Committee Board at their monthly board meetings for review and confirmation.
The first recipient of this award, are the owners and occupants of the residential property at 325 E. Pine Street,
Michael and Joanne Meek. Their picture -book perfect property is an asset to their neighborhood and the
community as a whole.
The City of Lodi wishes to show its appreciation to Mr. And Mrs. Meek for maintaining civic pride by awarding the
inaugural Community Improvement Award. A lawn sign will be displayed in front of their property for all to see and
a photo of the property will be displayed on the City of Lodi's web page.
