STATE HIGHWAY 99 MOKELUMNE RIVER BRIDGE
NORTHBOUND LANE
WHEREAS, a Cal Trans study found that the accident rate
on and about subject bridge is five times greater than the state
average; and
WHEREAS, the Northbound on-ramp is shorter than Cal Trans
design standards; and
WHEREAS, the Northbound lanes of said bridge carry normal
freeway traffic plus a heavy commuter load to six businesses and
one school immediately North of said bridge; and
WHEREAS, approximately 600 commuters must accelerate on the
Northbound on-ramp, merge into normal freeway traffic, and while
upon said bridge, deaccelerate rapidly in order to negotiate a
90 degree right turn off said bridge and onto the frontage road;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed third Northbound lane over the river
would be in the best interest of safety and energy conversation
if said lane included an area for bicycle commuter traffic; and
WHEREAS, this proposed project meets all regional planning
criteria, insofar as the bridge on -ramps and off -ramps tie in with
Turner Road, a major connector between Highway 99 and Interstate 5,
all of which accommodate state, county, and local traffic needs.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the California Transportation
Commission direct the California Department of Transportation to
join the San Joaquin County Council of Governments, and the Lodi
City Council in adding the proposed bridge lane to the State Trans-
portation Improvement Plan with the best possible priority.
