HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 80-42RESOLUTION NO. 80-42 STATE HIGHWAY 99 MOKELUMNE RIVER BRIDGE NORTHBOUND LANE WHEREAS, a Cal Trans study found that the accident rate on and about subject bridge is five times greater than the state average; and WHEREAS, the Northbound on-ramp is shorter than Cal Trans design standards; and WHEREAS, the Northbound lanes of said bridge carry normal freeway traffic plus a heavy commuter load to six businesses and one school immediately North of said bridge; and WHEREAS, approximately 600 commuters must accelerate on the Northbound on-ramp, merge into normal freeway traffic, and while upon said bridge, deaccelerate rapidly in order to negotiate a 90 degree right turn off said bridge and onto the frontage road; and WHEREAS, the proposed third Northbound lane over the river would be in the best interest of safety and energy conversation if said lane included an area for bicycle commuter traffic; and WHEREAS, this proposed project meets all regional planning criteria, insofar as the bridge on -ramps and off -ramps tie in with Turner Road, a major connector between Highway 99 and Interstate 5, all of which accommodate state, county, and local traffic needs. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the California Transportation Commission direct the California Department of Transportation to join the San Joaquin County Council of Governments, and the Lodi City Council in adding the proposed bridge lane to the State Trans- portation Improvement Plan with the best possible priority.
