HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 2001-295RESOLUTION NO. 2001-295 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO PROVIDE A PUBLIC BENEFITS PROGRAM GRANT — DEMAND-SIDE MANAGEMENT PROJECT TO SCIENTIFIC SPECIALTIES, INC. WHEREAS, the state has mandated that beginning January 1, 1998, the City of Lodi is obligated to fund various programs through a Public Benefits Charge (PBC) based on a historical electric revenue requirement; and WHEREAS, the requirement amounts to approximately $1 M per year that must be dedicated to qualifying programs such as energy efficiency. A further stipulation is that these efforts must be done on the customer's side of the meter in order to qualify; and WHEREAS, the City of Lodi's Public Benefits Program is comprised of four segments or customer groups: commercial/industrial, residential, community/non-profit, and municipal; and WHEREAS, Scientific Specialties Inc. has installed high -efficiency lighting and mechanical (heating and cooling systems) equipment at its office and manufacturing facility located at 1310 E. Thurman Street. Specifically, this approved energy efficient equipment was purchased and installed: ➢ two 3.5 -ton 12.0 Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) air conditioning units; and ➢ two 4 -ton 13.0 SEER air conditioning units; and ➢ three 5 -ton 13.0 SEER air conditioning units; and ➢ one 10 -ton 10.8 EER air conditioning unit; and ➢ four 12 -ton 9.9 EER air conditioning units; and ➢ 247 T-8 fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts for hallways, offices, production, and packaging rooms; and ➢ 66 400 -watt metal halide lamps for the warehouse. WHEREAS, the installation of this approved energy efficient equipment, compared to standard, inefficient heating/cooling units, as well as lighting, will save the customer in excess of 20 percent on their monthly energy costs. The grant amount of $27,041.80 reflects the standard 20 percent rebate available for energy efficiency improvement projects of this size and scope. The rebate will be paid in two equal installments over the ensuing twelve months; and WHEREAS, the Electric Utility staff recommends approval of this grant as a qualifying component of the City of Lodi Public Benefits Program, Energy Services Partnership program for large commercial and industrial customers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to provide a Public Benefits Program Grant — demand-side management project to Scientific Specialties, Inc., in the amount $27,041.80.
