A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFITS
PROGRAM GRANT - LODI APPLIANCE REBATE PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the state has mandated that beginning January 1, 1998, the City of Lodi is obligated to
fund various programs through a Public Benefits Charge (PBC) based on a historical electric revenue
requirement; and
WHEREAS, the requirement amounts to approximately $1 M per year that must be dedicated to
qualifying programs such as energy efficiency. A further stipulation is that these efforts must be done on
the customer's side of the meter in order to qualify; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lodi's Public Benefits Program is comprised of four segments or customer
groups: commerciallindustrial, residential, community/non-profit, and municipal; and
WHEREAS, this project is the fifth in a series of projects specifically designed for Lodi residential
electric customers. The Lodi Residential Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate 2000 project allows residential
customers to receive cash rebates of up to $400 per service address, by replacing specified older, less
energy efficient appliances with more energy efficient models; and
WHEREAS, to participate in the program, residential customers may purchase any oral[ of
the following appliances from the participating dealers and receive a $100.00 rebate for each:
Energy efficient refrigerator;
Upright manual defrost freezer;
Dishwashers
Front loading clothes washer/EnergyStar approved clothes washers;
Single -room air conditioner with 9.0 or higher SEER;
WHEREAS, the total rebate could be $400 per qualified residential customer, and the rebate
program will run until funds are depleted; and
WHEREAS, funds for the appliance rebate program are now exhausted, and staff requests that the
City Manager provide a Public Benefits Program Grant in the amount of $75,000.00 for the Lodi Appliance
Rebate Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council hereby authorizes the City
Manager to provide a Public Benefits Program grant in the amount of $75,000.00 to fund the Lodi
Appliance Rebate Program, specifically designed for Lodi residential electric customers.
