BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Administrative Assistant to the City Manager Haynes will present an overview of the events and request the City Council to participate in the judging of the "City Council's Choice" ribbon for the parade. Attached is a copy of the news release regarding the December 3, 1998 Hospice Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights in Downtown Lodi. Di n Flynn -- City Managei Lodi, October 7,1898: Rain or shine, the downtown merchants will hold their third Parade of Lights, Thursday, December 3, 1998 in downtown Lodi. The 1998 Parade of lights committee announced today that applications for the third annual parade of lights will be available starting Monday, October 12, at two downtown locations: Poser's TV and Radio located at 208 South School Street and Sheri's Sonshine Nutrition Center located at 6 North School Street. Last year's parade drew more than 80 entries and a crowd of 15,000, who lined School and Church Streets. This years parade will utilize a longer route throughout the downtown. The schedule of activities will include the Hospice Tree Lighting in front of City hall followed by Christmas carolers through the downtown parade route prior to the parade which has a star time of 6:27 P.M. This year food vendors will be lined on each block of the parade route so that viewers may come downtown enjoy the festivities and have dinner. For more information on becoming a vendor please contact Chet Somera at 333-6800 017. The parade's theme is "One Hundred Years of Christmas." All entries must be lit, whether using a generator, battery -powered lights, or light sticks. No open flames please! Parade registration will be accepted until Monday, November 16, 1998. A nonrefundable fee of $10. for nonprofit groups and $25. for all other entries is required. Awards will be given for the best entry in the following categories: antique vehicle, fire truck, automobile, walking group, marching group, school band, dance troop, mounted, truck, float, motorcycle, and individual.
