HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - October 7, 1998 (84)CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Addendum to Improvement Agreement for Lodi West, Unit No. 3, Tract No. 2659 MEETING DATE: October 7, 1998 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council take the following action with regard to the Lodi West, Unit No. 3 subdivision: 1. Direct the City Manager and City Clerk to execute the improvement agreement addendum for Lodi West, Unit No. 3, on behalf of the City. 2. Appropriate funds for required reimbursements. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The final map and improvement agreement for the Lodi West, Unit No. 3 subdivision were approved by Council on June 3, 1998. The development is located south of the existing Lodi West, Unit No. 2 development and west of Lower Sacramento Road as shown on Exhibit A. The development includes a street (Paradise Drive) which intersects with Lower Sacramento Road. The developer is responsible for the installation of street frontage improvements on Lower Sacramento Road at the intersection with Paradise Drive. During the construction of this development, staff determined that additional street paving would be needed in order to provide a left -turn pocket at the Lower Sacramento Road and Paradise Drive intersection. Staff has also determined that the existing pavement on Lower Sacramento Road at this intersection is in need of repair to withstand the additional traffic volume. The developer has agreed to perform the additional pavement work in conjunction with the Lodi West, Unit No. 3 development. Since the need for additional paving was identified after the start of construction and not a part of the developer's original construction contract, the developer will now be subject to higher unit prices for this work. The increased cost will be $10,050.25 based on the difference in current unit prices and the unit prices in the original construction contract. The developer has requested reimbursement by the City for the increase in cost. Staff feels that this is a reasonable request and recommends that the reimbursement be approved and the necessary funds appropriated. The City is responsible for the cost of repairing the existing pavement on Lower Sacramento Road. The developer obtained a bid estimate from his contractor in the amount of $17,481.70 for constructing a two-inch overlay of the existing street pavement. The cost estimate provided by the developer's contractor is reasonable and staff recommends that the necessary funds be appropriated to allow the completion of this work with the street pavement work for the Lodi West, Unit No. 3 development.
