The total cost of the upgrade is $ 34,435. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In June, 1991, the City Council adopted Resolution 91-103 authorizing the purchase of an electronic meter reading system from Itron, Inc., consisting of portable recording devices, uploading systems, and software. This current equipment is not Year -2000 compliant. Although the current system was purchased directly from Itron in 1991, Itron has since established regional business partners to provide equipment sales and support to utilities with fewer than 30 meter readers; Orcom Solutions is the business partner responsible for California and the Pacific Northwest. The Orcom-Itron partnership should prove beneficial to the City of Lodi. Because the City currently uses Orcom's utility customer information software (CIS), the Orcom technical staff will support not only the Itron system and our CIS, but will be knowledgeable about the interaction of the two systems as well. The equipment and software system upgrade will cost $ 29,035, and will consist of one PC (to be purchased from Micron under their CMAS contract), six hand-held data collection devices, cradles for uploading data to the AS/400, one meter probe, data cables and software. Implementation and training on the new devices and software is expected to add an estimated $4,800, for a total upgrade cost of $ 34,435. FUNDING: Electric Utility Capital unding Approval: Alan N.
