A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE
PURCHASE OF TWELVE MOVING MODE STATIONARY RADAR UNITS
WHEREAS, the Police Department has found Custom Electronic, Inc. radar guns
to be low maintenance with parts and materials readily available; and
WHEREAS, in 1989 the City Council approved the standardization by the Police
Department on Custom Electronic, Inc. radar guns; and
WHEREAS, during 1998, the City of Lodi experienced an all time high in total
collisions, and particularly alarming was DUI collisions rose from 48 in 1997 to 94 in
1998; and
WHEREAS, by installing moving mode radar units in nearly half of the fleet, this
would provide officers with another tool for detecting possible intoxicated drivers; and
WHEREAS, in addition to DUI enforcement, the City of Lodi is also experiencing
an increased number of traffic collisions in which speed is the primary cause, and by
installing radar units in patrol vehicles this would allow officers to focus more on speed
violations.
NOW, THE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council does hereby
authorize the purchase of twelve (12) Custom Electric, Inc. moving mode stationary
_radar units for police patrol vehicles at a cost of approximately $22,992.00.
