A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL ENDORSING ALTERNATIVE
#6A OF THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION REPORT
WHICH RETAINS AREA CODE 209 IN SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY

WHEREAS, the California Public Utilities Commission is proposing to alter the
boundaries for the 209 area code, which could potentially impact the City of Lodi; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Alternatives are a result of an increased demand for
telephone numbers created by cell phones, pagers, faxes, modems, and basic telephone
service; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Alternatives are as follows:
Alternative #1A 2 -way split in which Lodi retains area code 209
Alternative #1132 2 -way split in which Lodi does not retain area code 209
Alternative #3 Overlay of a new area code on top of the 209 area code,
which would require 11 digit dialing
Alternative #4A 2 -way split excluding Lodi from the 209 area code
Alternative #46 2 -way split including Lodi in the 209 area code, but excluding
Stockton and areas south of Turlock
Alternative #6A 2 -way split which retains area code 209 in San Joaquin
County excluding Thornton
Alternative #6B 2 -way split giving San Joaquin County (excluding Thornton)
south to Crows Landing a new area code; and
WHEREAS, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors unanimously supports
Alternative #6A with one modification to include Thornton with the rest of the County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council hereby endorses
Altemative #6A of the California Public Utilities Commission report which retains area code
209 in San Joaquin County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council hereby designates Stan
Helmle, Information Systems Manager as the City of Lodi's representative at all public
meetings/hearings concerning this matter in the City's effort to retain area code 209 and to
urge for new area codes for non-intervention telephones.

Council of the City of Lodi in a regular meeting held May 17, 2000, by the following vote:

and Mann (Mayor)
NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS — None
ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS — None
ABSTAIN: COUNCIL MEMBERS — None
