HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 86-64RESOLUTION NO. 86-64 RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE DAY OF THE TEACHER WHEREAS, the people of Lodi recognize the debt of gratitude owed those instructing young people in our classrooms; and WHEREAS, the Association of Mexican American Educators, Inc., (AMAE) brought to our state the custom of a special time to honor teachers and sponsored 1982 legislation to establish such time yearly throughout California; and WHEREAS, in accord with that law (EDUCATION CODE 37227.6) and by proclamation of Governor George Deukmejian, Wednesday, May 14, 1986, has been designated and set aside as the Fourth Annual Observance of "Day of the Teacher"; and WHEREAS, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and State Department of Education urge that teaching career choices be promoted to young people by honoring those, who have served or are serving in that profession; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lodi hereby greets and commends teachers for all they mean to our students and communities; and BE IT t aVaiEt RESOLVED that the City Council urge all individuals and organizations to join it in wishing teachers a wonderful "Day of the Teacher," Wednesday, May 14, 1986; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council requests the assistance of the Lodi Unified School District Superintendent of Schools to disseminate this Resolution as widely as possible in order that teachers may be reminded of the esteem in which they are held and the appreciation felt for their dedicated service. I hereby certify that Resolution No. 86-64 was passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Lodi in a regular meeting held May 7, 1986 by the following vote: Ayes: Council Members Noes: Council Members Absent: Council Members U7 Alice M. -imche City Clerk - Pinkerton, Olson, Snider, Hirschman & Reid Mayor) - None - None 86-64
