BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project will relocate the existing train station building, north of Pine Street, to its new location, south of Pine Street. This project will also improve the site around the remodeled train station building, build a south annex for drivers' break room, bus stops, a small office under the clock tower, landscaping, fountain, shade structures, irrigation and site lighting for the entire facility, and a railroad passenger platform. The small office will be used by the Police Bike Patrol. Parking is a major part of the project and consists of: 38 stalls south of Pine Street, north of the depot, for patrons and general use. 21 stalls south of the depot behind the tire store which will be designated for employees. 10 stalls along the Walnut Street entrance for patrons and general use. 17 bus parking stalls in a fenced area at the old depot site, between Pine and Elm streets. 23 stalls will be created on Walnut Street between School and Sacramento streets when the current bus stops are relocated to the station. Staff is still working to see if we can accommodate Greyhound in the depot building as an interim measure. Construction is scheduled to start in fall 1998 and be completed in summer 1999. The City Dial -A -Ride and GrapeLine dispatch staff and facilities will be relocated to the remodeled train station building and will monitor the site and waiting room.
