BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The proposed Program of Projects consists of the following: • Transit Operations - DAVE Transportation contract and administration for fiscal year 1996/97 • Wash Bay Improvements - Currently, more than one cycle is needed to wash the buses and they are still not completely clean. These improvements will save time, water and money. • Portable Lift System - See below • Multimodal Station Construction - Because construction is scheduled to begin in December 1997, it is important to program the money as soon as possible. Portable Lift System The Equipment Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining and repairing almost all of the City's vehicles and equipment, including the Transit fleet. The Equipment Maintenance Shop (EMS), located at the Municipal Service Center (MSC), has only one heavy-duty lift capable of lifting large pieces of equipment and buses. To better serve the Transit buses, heavy equipment and the Downtown trolley, an additional lift system is needed. A portable system provides the most flexibility and is less expensive than its in -ground counterpart. The reason for requesting approval of the specifications and authorization to advertise for bids at this time is the urgent need the EMS has for the portable lift. The arrival of the trolley has increased the use of the only lift capable of lifting these heavy buses. By approving this action, the EMS will have a head start. Specifications have been prepared for this mobile, wheel -contact lifting system and are on file in the Public Works Department at MSC. A recommendation to approve the Program of Projects will be presented to the City Council at its April 2, 1997 meeting, before the expenditure is made for the portable lift. FUNDING: The money for this equipment will be coming from FTA Section 9 funds and TDA funds. A request for appropriation of funds will be made at time of purchase recommendation.
