RESOLUTION NO. 90-72
A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
APPROVING THE REVISED CLASS SPECIFICATIONS FOR EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
SUPERVISOR, AND APPROVING THE SALARY RANGE ADJUSTMENTS FOR EQUIPMENT
MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR AND BUILDING AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT
RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council does hereby approve the revised class
specifications for Equipment Maintenance Supervisor as shown as Exhibit A,
attached hereto and incorporated by reference; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council hereby approves the adjustment of
salary ranges for Equipment Maintenance Supervisor by 4.56% and FOR Building
and Equipment Maintenance Superintendent by 4.18%, effective May 28, 1990, as
follows:

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
DEFINITION
May, 1990
Under general direction, responsible for operations and activities in the
Equipment Maintenance Section; supervises mechanics and shop personnel;
performs administrative tasks and provides direction for complex mechanical
work.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position is responsible for personnel and vehicle and equipment
maintenance procedures at the Municipal Service Center. It is the first
line supervisory level position, responsible for overall shop operations and
activities. It is distinguished from Building & Equipment Superintendent in
that the Superintendent is responsible for managing the operation of the
Building and Equipment Division.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the Building and Equipment Maintenance
Superintendent.
Exercises general supervision over all subordinate positions.
-. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include but are not limited to the
3 following:
Plans, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of subordinate equipment
maintenance positions.
Assists in the development and revision of all shop policies, rules, and
procedures.
Assists in the development and administration of the Equipment Maintenance
budget.
Directs the selection, supervision and work evaluation of assigned staff;
recommends disciplinary action or dismissal; resolves a variety of
routine personnel and related administrative matters.
Oversees the maintenance of various records on equipment and vehicle
maintenance, parts and labor.
Researches new operational methods techniques and equipment and recommends
their application.
Directs the Parts Coordinator in preparing parts lists and ordering parts;
approves ordering of shop supplies.
Assists shop personnel with technical maintenance cuestions and problems.
Inspects and road test automobiles, trucks, tractors, gas equipment, and
diesel ecruipment to diagnose malfunctions and determine repair needs.
Establish overall preventative maintenance programs; ensures compliance with
smog control requirements.
Establishes maintenance intervals on all vehicles and ea_uipment.
Assu.-nes responsibility for overall shop computer system input and
information; reviews and interprets printed computer reports.
Reviews and approves daily tune cards.
Assists in writing and preparing vehicle and equipment specifications.
Assists in the purchase and disposal of vehicles and equipment.

1 Coordinates contract work with vendors to minimize City costs and
down time of equipment.
Prepares annual work orders for vehicles and equipment.
Supervises and schedules the use and maintenance of Motor Pool vehicles.
Prepares special studies and reports requested by the Building and Equipment
Superintendent.
Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Basic principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the
overhaul, repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and
equipment, trucks and heavy construction equipment.
Safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations related to the
work.
Principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to:
Perform journey level equipment mechanical work including the diagnosis of
equipment for both major and minor repairs work.
Accurately determine mechanical repair needs and estimate the cost and time
of repairs.
Utilize a computer to organize and maintain vehicles, equipment, and
inventories.
Maintain a variety of shop and repair records.
Plan, organize, direct and -evaluate the work of others.
Exercise independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted
in the course of work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely
provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical
combination is:
Education:
Equivalent to completion of high school.
Experience:
Four years journey level mechanic experience, two of which were in a lead or
supervisory capacity.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Possession of a valid Driver's License (class C) issued by the California.
Department of Motor Vehicles.
