A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
APPROVING THE NEW CLASS SPECIFICATIONS
AND SALARY RANGE FOR PARK RANGER I/II
RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Lodi does hereby approve the
new class specifications for Park Ranger as shown on Exhibit A attached hereto
and thereby made a part hereof; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the salary range for Park Ranger I/II shall
remain unchanged.

I hereby certify that Resolution No. 90-45 was passed and adopted by the
City Council of the City of Lodi in a regular meeting held March 21, 1990
by the following vote:

Park Ranger I/II
DEFINITION:
March 1990
Under supervision, protects City parks and recreation facilities and parks
visitors; maintains order, security and safety of assigned areas; performs
related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Park Rancaer I - This is the entry level in the Park Ranger series.
Positions in this class are distinguished from the II level in that a Park
Ranger I works under close supervision to learn various codes, ordinances
and park security procedures. This class is flexibly staffed with Park
Ranger II, and incumbents may progress to the higher level after
successfully completing two years of service which demonstrates proficiency
at the higher level.
Park Ranger II - This is the journey level in the Park Ranger series.
Incumbents perform a wide range of Park Ranger duties under supervision of
the Senior Park Ranger. The II level is thoroughly familiar with and
enforces codes, ordinances and state laws. Incumbents have peace officer
powers as defined in the Penal Code, Section 830.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include but are not limited to the

ollowing:
Patrols parks, recreational and other areas to protect natural resources,
prevent vandalism, area misuse, and insures the safety of the public.
issues written warnings and citations; makes arrests; may perform booking
duties and make court appearances.
Greets and provides information to park visitors; directs them to specific
areas; provides assistance to them in emergency situations; may
administer first aid; may provide information to other agencies
pertaining to park use, safety requirements, rules for use and points
of interest.
Collects and accounts for fees and completes forms as required; participates
in special projects as assigned.
Assists in training and supervising part-time employees may assist in minor
maintenance and clean-up of park structures and grounds.
Drives a vehicle to various recreation sites to perform park ranger duties;
operates boats and other recreational equipment; maintains records and
prepares reports.
May participate in minor maintenance and clean-up of park structures and
grounds.
".INIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Principles and practices of park management and general law enforcement.
Principles and practices of first aid and safety. -
Ability to:
Read, interpret and enforce laws and regulations.
Maintain records and prepare clear, complete and concise reports.
Analvze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Communicate and write effectively_
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public and other
employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely
provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical
combination is:
Park Ranqer I
Education:
Completion of high school or its equivalent.
Experience•
None.
Park Ranaer II
Education:
Completion of high school or its equivalent, supplemented by a course in
Powers of Arrest in accordance with Penal Code Section 832.
yDerience.
Two years of experience comparable to a Park Ranger I or experience which
involved the management, operation or protection of a park or public
recreational area.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid Class C Driver's License issued by the California
Department of Motor Vehicles.
Ability to obtain a valid Advanced First Aid Certificate issued by the
American Red Cross within one year of appointment.
