A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
APPROVING THE NEW CLASS SPECIFICATIONS
AND SALARY RANGE FOR SENIOR PARK RANGER
RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Lodi does hereby approve the
new class specifications for Senior Park Ranger as shown on Exhibit A attached
hereto and thereby made a part hereof; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the salary range for Senior Park Ranger shall
be as follows, effective March 21, 1990:

Under direction, supervises and participates in law enforcement to protect
City park and recreation facilities, and park visitors; collects and
accounts for park use and other fees; performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is the supervisory level in the Park Ranger series. Positions in this
class are distinguished from the Park Ranger II class in that they exercise
a high degree of independent judgment and provide supervision to others in
the enforcement of laws and codes and collection of fees. Incumbents have
peace officer powers as defined in the Penal Code, Section 830.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives direction from the Parks Superintendent. Exercises general
supervision over Park Rangers and other subordinate personnel.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include but are not limited to the
following:
Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of Park Rangers and other
personnel engaged in enforcing laws and collecting of park and other
fees; reviews reports and logs of Park Rangers.
Assists in the selection of, conducts training for, and evaluates the
y performance of subordinate park personnel.
Performs law enforcement functions by patrolling parks, recreational and
other areas to protect parks and other natural resources; prevents
vandalism, theft or area misuse; ensures the safety of the public;
issues warnings and citations; makes arrests; may perform booking
duties; investigates cases when needed; testifies in court.
Assists in budget preparation and administration; recommends expenditures
and makes approved purchases.
Supervises and participates in collection and accounting of Park use fees.
Greets and provides information to park visitors; directs them to specific
areas; provides assistance to them in emergency situations; may
administer first aid; may provide information to other agencies
pertaining to park use, safety requirements, rules for use and points
of interest.
Prepares reports and correspondence; maintains records of supplies and
equipment issued to Park Rangers and other personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledoe of
Basic principles and practices of supervision.
Principles and practices of natural resources conservation, park management,
and general law enforcement.
Principles and practices of first aid and safety; public relations practices.

Ability to•
Plan, organize and direct the work of others.
Enforce laws, ordinances, and regulations.
Deal effectively with the public.
Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
Speak and write effectively and clearly.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely
provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical
combination is:
Education•
Completion of high school or its equivalent supplemented by a course in
Powers of Arrest in accordance with Penal Code Section 832.
Experience:
Three years of experience comparable to a Park Ranger II or other experience
which involved the management, operation, or protection of a park or public
recreational area.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid Class C Driver's License issued by the California
N Department of Motor Vehicles.

Ability to obtain a valid Advanced First Aid Certificate issued by the
American Red Cross within one year of appointment.
