HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - February 5, 1997 (73)4 + 4 CITY OF Loi COUNCII, COMMUNICATION 14 AGENDA TITLE: Professional Engineering Service Contracts for 1997 Citywide Aerial Photograph Service ($9,488) MEETING DATE: March 5,1997 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize execution of an agreement for aerial photography services with Geonex Cartwright Aerial Surveys, Inc. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Aerial photographs for the City have been taken on a regular basis approximately every four years. The photographs have been used by various departments of the City for planning, exhibit, engineering, public services, and many other services which require the photographs. The cost of the aerial photograph service in the past has always been less than $5,000 and staff has issued purchase orders to acquire the service. The most recent aerial photographs of the City were taken in April 1992. This year, besides the regular aerial photographs, staff also recommends getting the aerial photographs digitized into computer images. The images would help the City to superimpose right-of- way and utility maps and to print out the photographs for the public at the counter in City Hall. The Street Department has also requested infrared color photographs of the City be taken in order to evaluate the health of the City trees. Infrared color photographs can detect diseased or insect - infested trees long before they can be detected by the naked eye. The City Council approved the request for proposals on February 5, 1997. We have received proposals from Geonex Cartwright Aerial Surveys, Inc. and Radman Aerial Surveys. Geonex was selected to perform this work because of lower cost and because they have performed similar services for the City in the past.
