CITY OF LODE COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

Approval of a $10,000 Loan to
of Van Buskirk Park
MEETING DATE: February 19, 1997
PREPARED BY: Parks and Recreation Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve a loan in the amount of $10,000 to the
Lodi Rotary Club to be paid back over a five-year period.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The revitalization of Van Buskirk Park commenced in February
of 1996 with a public workshop. In April 1996 the Parks and
Recreation Commission approved the master plan as did the City
Council on June 5, 1996. In July of 1996 the council approved
$70,000 in allocations from the departments 1996/97 C.I.P. budget as the first phase of this revitalization.
In keeping with the city's goals and objectives, staff proceeded to seek a collaborating partner that would
join in the effort to construct the park. We are very enthused to report that the Lodi Rotary Club has
agreed to be a partner in funding a portion of the construction as well as a labor force to accomplish a
significant portion of the construction. The Lodi Rotary Club will fund and construct the basketball court,
corner entry sign, retaining walls, benches, concrete patio, as well as purchasing and planting all trees,
shrubs and ground cover. Total value is estimated at $36,000.
The club is requesting a loan in the amount of S 10,000 to complete their commitment. They are suggesting
a repayment plan of $2,000 per year for five years. Club members Brian Kanegawa and George
Abrahamson will be seeing the project through and ensuring the loan is paid back in a timely manner.
FUNDING: $10,000 from the contingency fund. A repayment plan of $2,000 per year for five
years.
