A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL APPROVING
WAIVER AND TRANSFER OF JUVENILE ACCOUNTABILITY
INCENTIVE BLOCK GRANT FUNDING
WHEREAS, San Joaquin County has received a Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block
Grant from the Office of Criminal Justice Planning in the amount of $120,471.00; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lodi's share of that grant is $14,906.00; and
WHEREAS, the Police Chief has been approached by San Joaquin County to
recommend that the City of Lodi pool their share of the grant with the City of Manteca and the
City of Tracy to hire a gang outreach worker modeled after an approach that was used in
Boston's Cease Fire Program; and
WHEREAS, this person would receive extended training and will have extended
experience in dealing with juveniles who typically participate in gang activity, and will spend a
third of their time in each of the three communities; and
WHEREAS, the County would also provide some funding for this position; and
WHEREAS, this has proven to be a successful strategy in the City of Boston, and the
cities of Tracy and Manteca have agreed to participate in this strategy; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends approval of this proposal.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lodi hereby
approves the waiver and transfer of the Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant funding.
