HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - February 5, 1997 (62)yOF; OQ 1COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Request for Proposals for 1997 Aerial Photograph Services MEETING DATE: February 5, 1997 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the request for proposals (RFP) for 1997 City-wide aerial photograph services. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Aerial photographs of the City have been taken on a regular basis of about every four years. The latest aerial photographs of the City were taken in April of 1992. The photographs have been used by various departments of the City for planning, exhibit, engineering, public services, and many other services which are enhanced by the use of photographs. The cost of this aerial photograph service in the past has been less than $5,000 and purchased without formal bids. This year, with the additional work described below, the cost will be over $5,000, and with the professional, technical nature of the work, we are recommending a proposal process. This year, in addition to the conventional aerial photographs, staff is recommending that the aerial photographs be digitized into computer images. The images would improve City mapping and information presentation and also allow staff to print out the photographs for the public at City Hall. The Street Division has also requested to have infrared color photographs of the City taken in order to evaluate the health of the City trees. The infrared color photographs can detect diseased or insect -infested trees long before they can be detected by the naked eye. FUNDING: The money will be allocated from Public Works Tree Maintenance and General Engineering accounts. Service Estimate: $10,500 Planned Bid Opening Date: February 19, 1997 ft V/ `\ Ja L.
