A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
DECLARING SUPPORT FOR THE CONVERSION OF THE FORMER
STOCKTON DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER TO THE CALIFORNIA
STATE UNIVERSITY, STANISLAUS STOCKTON CENTER
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council as follows:
1. That this City Council hereby supports the conversion of the former Stockton
Developmental Center property to the California State University, Stanislaus Regional
Center for Educational and Human Services; and
2. That this City Council finds a compelling case can be made for establishing a CSU
Regional Center in Stockton, as follows:
2.1 The residents of San Joaquin County have demonstrated a need for access to
public higher education.
2.2 The population of San Joaquin County is projected to increase from 483,800 in
1990 to 778,400 by the year 2010.
2.3 Only 14 percent of adults in San Joaquin County have a college degree
compared with 24 percent in California.
2.4 Affordable, accessible higher education is closely linked to gainful employment.
2.5 The proposed transfer of land would convert unused state-owned property to an
economically beneficial use for the surrounding community.
2.6 The center would provide a way for local employees to upgrade their skills and
productivity.
