HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 96-64RESOLUTION NO. 96-64 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL RECOMMENDING THAT THE HIGH SPEED RAIL COMMISSION ADOPT THE ALTAMONT PASS CORRIDOR AS THE CONNECTION TO THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA WHEREAS, the High Speed Rail Commission is studying various corridors to provide high speed service from Los Angeles to San Francisco and Sacramento; and WHEREAS, the Commission has already recommended further study of the State Route 99 Corridor; and WHEREAS, the State Route 99 Base and State Route 99 Long Corridor options have the highest ridership and revenue potential; and WHEREAS, the State Route Base and the State Route 99 Long Corridor options provide the best service for the intermediate travel markets; and WHEREAS, the Altamont Pass Capital costs range from 15 to 35 percent less than the capital costs for the Panoche and Pacheco passes; and WHEREAS, the ridership of the high speed rail will increase approximately 2Yz times if the corridor is extended to San Diego on the south and Sacramento on the north; and WHEREAS, operating costs for such extensions would only increase by 50%; and WHEREAS, the extension of the high speed rail to Sacramento would increase the market population by approximately three million people and double that by the time service starts; and WHEREAS, the State Route 99 Corridor in conjunction with the Altamont Pass Corridor would extend the high speed rail to Stockton and potentially Sacramento. It would offer an opportunity for more dense development of land use thus, saving valuable central valley farmland. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that based upon these reasons, the City Council of the City of Lodi recommends that the High Speed Rail Commission adopt the Altamont Pass Corridor as the connection to the San Francisco Bay Area.
