HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - June 17, 1987 PHCITY OF LODlCOUNCIL VJaM UN C ATIOT PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTN TO: City Council FROM: City Manager MEETING DATE: June 17, 1987 AGENDA TITLE: Sidewalk Deficiency - West Side of Cherokee Lane, South of Murray Street RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council discuss the sidewalk deficiencies on Cherokee Lane and take appropriate action. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: As discussed with members of the City Council on the C ero ee Lane tour during the latter part of 1986, the sidewalk deficiency fronting the Del Rancho Motor Inn causes a hardship and hazard to pedestrians. This problem is the greatest during major activities on the Grape_Festi_v_a_1 grounds. With the completion of the street widening and sidewalk installation framing -the-Grape-Eesti-vol-grounds--the--Del- Rai -e a------- property is the only parcel on the west side of Cherokee between Lackeford and Pioneer which is deficient in sidewalk (see attached exhibit). Curb, gutter and sidewalk is a property owner's responsibility and the City can require these improvements where the City has the right-of-way and more than 50% of the block has been improved. It Is recommended that the owners of the Del Rancho property be required to install sidewalk prior to the Grape Festival and "ational Wine Show to be held in September. If the Council desires the property owner to 4nstall sidewalk, a public hearing should be set for July 15, 1987 to hear any objections or protests from interested parties. Setting the public hearing and giving the owner proper notification is the beginning of the process for correcting deficient sidewalk. We are aware that there are other parcels with deficient sidewalk and curb and gutter on Cherokee Lane. The attached Exhibit A shows those deficiencies north of Lodi Avenue. It is staff's intent to review the other areas with the City Council in the future. \ d. hack Ronsko Pubes Works Director JLR/ma Attachments cc: Street Superintendent APPROVED: CSIDEW6/TXTW.02M FILE NO_ PFTFPS N.
