HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 16, 1997 (52)CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Sale of Surplus City Property at 1775 South Church Street ($40,000) MEETING DATE: April 16, 1997 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution accepting the bid of $40,000 from the Lodi Chapter of Habitat for Humanity of San Joaquin County, Inc. for the property at 1775 South Church Street and authorizing the City Manager and City Clerk to execute a deed for this property when the money is received. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This property was declared surplus property in August 1994. Since that time the City has received several bids. However, all bids were far below the appraised value and were rejected by the Council. In November 1996, when the last bid was rejected, the Council set a minimum bid price of $40,000 and authorized the City Clerk to open bids on a continuous basis. On April 4, 1997, the Lodi Chapter of Habitat for Humanity of San Joaquin County submitted a bid of $40,000 contingent upon the receipt of HOME Fund grant money. Their request for the grant money was approved by the City Council at its March 5, 1997 meeting. The funds will become available after July 1, 1997 at which time they will pay for the property. A deposit of 1 % of the bid amount was submitted with the bid and will go toward the purchase price if the Council approves the sale. This is the first bid at the appraised value the City has received. It is recommended that the sale of this property to the Habitat for Humanity be approved and the property transferred as soon as the grant money is received. This property was originally purchased by the City using Gas Tax funds and any money received from the sale must be used to reimburse those funds. FUNDING: Gas Tax funds to receive revenue.
