HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - May 21, 1997 (56)CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Public Hearing to Consider Dial -A -Ride and Fixed -Route Changes MEETING DATE: May 21, 1997 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council conduct a public hearing to receive input on possible changes in the Dial -A -Ride and Fixed Route systems. It is recommended that the City Council approve the following changes to the City of Lodi's transit system: GrapeLine: Fare and route changes to fixed -route system: A. Reduce senior/disabled fare from $.50 (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) to $.25 all day B. Change all four existing routes C. Add a fifth route to serve east Lodi (see attached) D. Limit free passes to four (4) children, under 5 years of age, per paying adult All the GrapeLine changes to take effect June 23, 1997. Dial -A -Ride: Fare and service changes: A. Eliminate "three -persons -to -ride -for -one -fare" policy. Each person pays, including infants and children. This new policy is to take effect June 23, 1997. B. Operate Dial -A -Ride on Sunday mornings, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., effective June 1, 1997. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi has actively sought public and private comment regarding the proposed changes through public meetings, Shirtsleeve Sessions, surveys and newspaper ads. The City of Lodi currently has in its fleet a fifth GrapeLine bus that will be used for the new fifth route. The Dial -A -Ride passengers were surveyed about Sunday service and the respondents preferred morning service more than two to one. However, it was recommended that the service operate in the late afternoon, especially since GrapeLine does not operate on Sundays.
