This money would pay for part of the reconstruction costs of rehabilitating a buflding at 19 South Sacramento Street into a shelter for the homeless. Fellowship In Action is a non-profit organization comprised of a group of Lodi area residents concerned about the difficulties local service agencies face in finding, keeping and paying for a suitable facility for their particular program. Many agencies have inadequate facilities or the rent constitutes a large portion of their budget. By controlling the cost of rent, organizations would be better able to direct their energy, expertise and money to their specific programs. With this i.2mind, Fellowship In Action set their goal: To purchase, renovate and equip facilities for local social concerns organizations with the help of voluntary labor and materials provided at cost. We saw the need for an expanded facility for the Lodi New Life Mission. This non-profit organization located on Sacramento Street provides food, clothing and shelter for 4 i Honorable Mayor James Pinkerton Lodi City Council February 10, 1989 Page 2 of 2 homeless and destitute men, women and children. Their i? current facilities are ill-equipped, inadequate and too expensive. Fellowship In Action purchased an old building at 19 North Sacramento Street with the intention of rehabilitating the structure and offering it to Lodi New Life Mission. We have enclosed a copy of the proposed floor plan. Our goal for this project is to raise $100,000.
