HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - May 7, 1997 (80)S 0 CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Purchase of Notebook Computer ($4,391.72) MEETING DATE: May 7, 1997 PREPARED BY: Finance Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution awarding the bid for one multimedia notebook computer to the sole bidder, Micron Electronics of Nampa, Idaho, in the amount of $4,391.72 BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On March 19, 1997, the City Council authorized advertisement for bids for one notebook computer and one LCD projector. Bid packages for the notebook computer were sent to two direct marketers (Dell and Micron), and three resellers. (The bid for notebooks and projectors were issued separately, since most dealers handle either computers or projectors, but not both. Bids for the projector were opened today, May 7, and staff is expected to make a recommendation for award at the City Council meeting of May 21). Notebook bids were due on April 16, 1997; Micron Electronics was the sole respondent with a bid of $4,391.72. (Dell indicated that their response had been mis-routed by their overnight carrier; CompuCom's State Computer Store in Sacramento indicated that, under terms of their agreement with the State of California, they are not authorized to respond to formal bids from cities and counties. GE Capital and CompUSA, both of Sacramento, didn't recall seeing the bid form). Responses we might have received from other potential bidders are estimated to range from slightly below $4,300 (Dell's LM series) to well above Micron's bid ($6500-$7000 for Toshiba's Tecra line). However, it is staff's recommendation that the expense of a re -bid would offset any potential savings in price. It is therefore staff's further recommendation that Micron be awarded the bid for the purchase of this notebook computer_ FUNDING: Prepared by Joel Harris, Purchasing Officer 1996/97 Carryover Funds (10.0-050.01 Finance Dept.)
