HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - May 7, 1997 (101)a 0 CITY OF LODI COUNCIL, COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for Front -Mount Rotary Mower for Hutchins Street Square MEETING DATE: May 7, 1997 PREPARED BY: Community Center Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications and authorize ad- vertisement for bids for one Toro Model 120 front -mount rotary mower for the Community Center at Hutchins Street Square. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Lawn care at the Community Center is currently performed using three 21" -wide rotary push -mowers, with trimmings being bagged for transport to the transfer station on Turner Road. The Toro Model 12.0 has a cutting width of 52 inches, a grass recycling deck (eliminating the time and expense of bagging and disposing of clippings), and an operating speed of 4 miles per hour (maximum speed is 7 mph). The combination of these three features should reduce mowing time at the Center to about one-fourth the current levels. The Parks Division's Equipment Maintenance Section has specified the Toro mower because of its single hydraulic system (most makes have two separate systems); its single -pedal drive control (other manufacturers' models have separate pedals for forward drive and reverse; the single pedal allows the operator to easily change direction in corners and around trees and sidewalks with only a rocking foot motion, reducing fatigue sometimes encountered with dual pedals); and its grass recycling system. There are two authorized commercial Toro dealers serving California. West Star Distributing, with offices in Rancho Cordova and Hayward, covers Northern California, while California Turf Products covers Southern California from offices in San Diego, Bermuda Dunes, and Brea. We expect to receive bids only from these two dealers. FUNDING: 1996/97 Budget: 10.0-852.05 ($8,000) Charlene Lange, Com pity Ce t r Director APPROVED: / H.
