AGENDA TITLE: Contract with Lampe Engineering for Design Work on Fallen Tree Removal:
Mokelumne River and City Properties ($7,890)
MEETING DATE: August 6, 1997
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve a design contract with Lampe Engineering
and authorize the City Manager to execute the contract in a not -to -exceed
amount of $7,890.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Last winter's high water along the Mokelumne River caused the
downing of nineteen (19) trees along the shoreline of City
properties at Lodi Lake.
Pursuant to Council direction, staff met with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and
toured the damages to the river banks and congestion of fallen trees to river navigation. FEMA has
approved funding for tree removal of the nineteen (19) trees fronting City property with the amount to be
determined when bids are received. Design and specifications for this project must meet criteria and
requirements set forth by State Fish and Game, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD),
Fishers Biologists and the US Corps of Engineers. The short window we have to accomplish the work
during this winter has prompted the need to contract for the engineering and permitting required to
accomplish this work. Mr. Lampe has worked with staff in the past in developing plans and
specifications for bank stabilization in the nature area along the river.
A request for approval of plans and specifications and advertisement for bids will be brought back to
City Council in September.
