CITY OF I,ODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Equipment Purchase - Salas Park Sports Area Lighting Project
($18,748.50)
MEETING DATE: August 6, 1997
PREPARED BY: Parks and Recreation Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution authorizing the
purchase of sports lighting equipment for the Salas Park Sports
Area under a sole -source agreement with Musco Lighting, Inc., of
Muscatine, Iowa, in the amount of $18,748.50.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Earlier this year, the City completed a renovation of the outfield at
Tony Zupo Field. Renovation was necessary to bring the field to
acceptable standards following conclusion of the 1996-97 junior
tackle football program.
Having made that investment in Zupo,-staff felt that it would be prudent to move the football program to
another sports facility for upcoming seasons. Salas Park's northeast corner was selected as the best
available alternative to Zupo Field, but that section of the park is not currently lighted.
Musco Lighting has provided lighting systems for a number of Lodi's facilities, having most recently
installed lighting equipment at Peterson Park. Musco lights are also in use at Hale Park and Armory, as
well as the Kofu and Salas Parks baseball diamonds.
This purchase would include two 70 -foot steel poles, 14 light fixtures, 15 1500 -watt metal halide lamps,
drawings, structural calculations, freight, and seven-year warranty. The City's Electric Utility Department
would install the lights.
