HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - June 3, 1998 (94)AGENDA TITLE: Traffic Resolution Amendment - Angle Parking on South Side of Pine Street,
between Church Street and Sacramento Street
MEETING DATE: June 3, 1998
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution amending Section 4 of
Traffic Resolution 97-148 by approving angle parking on the south side of
Pine Street, between Church Street and Sacramento Street.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On May 5, City staff met with business owners in the downtown
area to discuss parking issues. A number of problems and possible
solutions were discussed in an effort to improve the current
situation. One possible solution City staff agreed to review was the
placement of angled parking along the south side of Pine Street, between Church Street and
Sacramento Street. Currently, the south side of these two blocks of Pine Street have parallel parking.
As a result of this review, staff is recommending that angled parking be placed along the south side of
Pine Street. This will provide an additional eight (8) parking spaces.
In addition, and as a result of the meeting with the business owners, staff will be reviewing methods for
improving the usage of downtown public parking lots by employees of downtown businesses and the
addition of parking along the north side of Walnut Street, between School Street and Sacramento Street.
This area of Walnut Street is currently being used as a bus -staging area. These buses will be moving to
the Multimodal Station after construction is completed. It is anticipated that an additional twelve to
sixteen parking spaces can be created.
Staff will be coming back to the Council later this summer for approval of the Walnut Street parking and
with recommendations for improving the usage of the downtown parking lots.
FUNDING: Funding from the Street Maintenance Account for striping modifications on Pine Street will
cost approximately $500.
