Home My WebLink AboutAgenda Report - June 3, 1998 (68)AGENDA TITLE: Sole Source Purchase of Molded Rubber Products for the Underground Electric Distribution System ($24,838.53) MEETING DATE: June 3, 1998 PREPARED BY: Electric Utility Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution authorizing the purchase of various molded rubber products as detailed in Exhibit A from the sole authorized supplier for this region, Western States Electric of Portland, Oregon, in the amount of $24,838.53. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Electric Utility Department's Engineering Division has prepared work orders to install or upgrade underground electric distribution services throughout the City. Exhibit A details the projected requirements for the various molded products in new developments such as Millsbridge, Sunwest Unit 14, Lodi West Unit 3, Bangs Ranch Unit 3, and Bridgetowne Unit 3. The molded products, manufactured by the RTE Components Division of Cooper Power Systems, are the only rubber products approved for these specific applications by the Electric Utility Department's Engineering Division. Further, Western States Electric is the only authorized distributor of RTE products in this region. (Exhibit B is a letter from the manufacturer's parent company, Cooper Power Systems, attesting to the sole supplier agreement). It is therefore recommended that the City Council approve the purchase of these products from Western States Electric at a total cost of $24,838.53. This agreement states that Western States Electric is an authorized representative for the following Cooper products: • RTE components (200 amp and 600 amp elbows, splices, etc.) • Fusing equipment (fuse links, current limiting fuses, fault indicators, etc.) • Arresters (overhead and elbow type, all classes) • Pin type Insulators At this time, Western States Electric is the only authorized distributor in this area for these Cooper products. All other Cooper products, such as capacitors, transformers, reclosers, padmounted switchgear and regulators are supported by Cooper directly. Ward Sr. Sales Engineer Cooper Power Systems RESOLUTION NO. 98-71 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE SOLE -SOURCE PURCHASE OF VARIOUS MOLDED RUBBER PRODUCTS ---------------------------------------------------------------- WHEREAS, Lodi Municipal Code, §3.20.070, authorizes dispensing with bids for purchases of supplies, services or equipment when it is in the best interests of the City to do so; and WHEREAS, the Electric Utility Department has prepared work orders to install or upgrade underground electric distribution services throughout the City; and WHEREAS, molded rubber products will be used in such developments such as Millsbridge, Sunwest Unit 14, Lodi West Unit 3, Bangs Ranch Unit 3 and Bridgetowne Unit 3; and WHEREAS, the molded rubber products needed are manufactured by the RTE Components Division of Cooper Power Systems, and are the only rubber products approved for these specific applications by the Electric Utility Department's Engineering Division; and WHEREAS, Western States Electric of Portland, Oregon is the sole authorized distributor of RTE products in this region for the various molded rubber products; and WHEREAS, it is staff recommendation that the City purchase the molded rubber products from Western States Electric in the amount of $24,838.53. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lodi does hereby approve the purchase of the various molded rubber products from Western States Electric in the amount of $24,838.53.
