COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

AGENDA TITLE: Acceptance of Improvements Under Traffic Signal Installation,
Lower Sacramento Road and Vine Street Contract
MEETING DATE: July 2, 1997
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council accept the improvements under the "Traffic Signal
Installation, Lower Sacramento Road and Vine Street' contract and
direct the City Engineer to filer Notice of Completion with the
County Recorder's office.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The project was awarded to Collins Electrical Company, Inc., of
Stockton, on September 4, 1996, in the amount of $99,200. The
contract has been completed in substantial conformance with the
plans and specifications approved by the City Council.
The contract completion date was January 28, 1997 and the actual completion date was
January 27, 1997. This project included the installation of a video detection system instead of detector
loops to actuate the signals. There were problems in getting this new video detection system to function
as the City wanted and this caused a delay in accepting the project. The contractor has upgraded the
system to provide the City with the options we had specified.
The final contract price was $99,921. The difference between the contract amount and the final contract
price is due to an increase in the length of the mast arms to better locate the video detection cameras
over the Lower Sacramento Road traffic lanes.
FUNDING: As determined at contract award.
