HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances - No. 1438 ERORDINANCE NO. 1438 AN ORDINANCE OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL CONS OL I DAT I NG MUN I C I PAL ELECT I ON S W ITH STATE W I DE GENERAL ELECT IONS THE LODI CITY COUNCIL DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Municipal Election: Date. The municipal election heretofore held on the second Tuesday of April in even numbered years is hereby consolidated with the Statewide general election, to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even numbered year, pursuant to Government Code §36503.5. This consolidation shall become operative with the municipal and general Statewide elections held in the year 1990. SECTION 2. Extension of Office. Those City officers whose terms would otherwise expire in April , 1990, shall continue in their offices until no later than the fourth Tuesday after the date of the municipal election held in conjunction with the Statewide general election in 1990, and until their successors are elected and qualified. SECTION 3. Approval by Board of Supervisors. This Ordinance shall be submitted to the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors for approval pursuant to Government Code §36503.5(a) (1) and shall become effective upon such approval. -1- SECTION 4. Voter Notification. Within thirty days after this Ordinance becomes effective under Section 3 above, the City Clerk shall cause notice to be mailed to all registered voters of the change in the election date. The notice shall also inform voters that as a result of the change in the election date, elected City officeholders' terms in office will be extended. SECTION 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed insofar as such conflict may exist. SECTION 6. This ordinance shall be published one time in the "Lodi News Sentinel", a daily newspaper of general circulation printed and published in the City of Logi.
