COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Presentation by the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission
regarding Honoring Teens program.
MEETING DATE: June 18, 1997

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation.
BACKGROUND INFORiMATION: The Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, in
conjunction with the Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club and Christopher J. Olsen, CFP American
Express Financial Advisors, is sponsoring a program entitled Honoring Teens. The
Lodi Youth Commission Leadership Committee selects one teen to be awarded Teen of
the Month from the applications submitted to the commission from the geneial public,
various schools, and church groups. This months Teen of the Month is Meghann
Arnold from Lodi High School.
In addition this month we will award an Honorable Mention, Teen of the Month, to
Kristin Morone from St. Mary's High School.

RE: June 18 presentation to Library and Historical Society JUN - D 1997
Alice, our presentation will be in two parts:
1. Ann Hughes, co-chair of 1997 American Bungalow Home Tour, will present a
check for $1,500.00 to Lodi Public Library. Nancy Martinez, Librarian will
receive the check. This donation was made possible by a grant from
Communities Together Coalition. The funds will be used to establish a
bungalow reference section at the library, and will also allow the library to
subscribe to publications such as American Bungalow Magazine. Book
Selection committee will serve under the direction of Nancy Martinez, and will be
made up of Donald and Colleen Shepard, Robin Knowlton, Stefan Sekula, and
Ann Hughes. If able to attend the council meeting, these persons will be
introduced.
2. Virginia Snyder, co-chair of 1997 American Bungalow Home Tour, will
present a check for $1,350.00 to the Lodi Historical Society. This donation
represents the proceeds from this year's bungalow tour, which was made
possible by donations from Stockton Savings Bank, Farmers and Merchants
Bank, and Bank of Stockton. LHS president Janice Roth and ticket coordination
Ruth Jamieson will accept the check.

June Teen of the Month
1997
Meghann works at a homeless shelter as part of her Senior project. She spends a great
amount of time at the homeless school where she helps the students learn to read and
write. She attends Lodi High.
Kristin Morone
June Honorary Teen of the Month
1997
Kristin is an excellent student who participates in the honors program at St. Mary's High
School. She excels in math and science courses, and currently she helps tutor geometry
students. In addition in academic, Kristin participates in drill team, basketball,
swimming and cross county. She attends St. Mary's High School and resides in the
community of Lodi.
