HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances - No. 250ORDINANCE NO. 250 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCES NUMBERS 157 AND 196 AND MENDING ORDINANCE NUMBER 137 RELATING TO AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC UPON THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF LODI. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LODI DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS : Section 1. - Ordinance No. 157 adopted and approved Section 2. - Ordinance No. 196 adopted and approved Section 3. - Ordinance No. 137 entitled "An Ordinance February 21, 1927 is hereby repealed. April 3, 1933 is hereby repealed. Regulating Traffic and Parking of Automobiles upon-the streets in the City of Lodi, Providing a Penalty for Violation Thereof, and Repealing all Ordinances in Conflict therewith'' is hereby amended by adding thereto a section to be known as "Section 11" in lieu of sections 11 and 12 formerly provided by Ordinances 157 and 196, sald Section 11 to read as follows:- Section 11. - it shall be unlawful for any person firm or corporation to drive or operate any motor vehicle over and across any of the lines hereinafter mentioned, when approaching the same from the directions hereinafter mentioned, without bringing such motor vehicle to a complete stop immediately before crossing said lines, such lines and the directions of travel being as follows: before crossin the easterly or westerly property lines of Cherokee Lane 7U.S. Highway 99-50); before crossing the northerly or southerly property lines of Lodi Avenue; before crossing the northerly or southerly property lines of Lockeford Street; before orossing the easterly or westerly property lines of North Church Street north of the south line of yest Lockeford Street. stopped being marked with "stop" signs conforming to the provisions of Section 473. of the California Vehicle Code. Section 4. - This is an ordinance providing for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety and shall go into effect immediately upon its adoption. The facts constituting the urgency thereof are as follows: Some of the intersections of streets entering Cherokee Lane, Lodi Avenue and Lockeford Street are now protected by ordlnance while others have no provisions requiring automobdle traffic entering such streets to come to a full stop, therefore, it is extremely dangerous (a) When traveling in an Easterly or Westerly dlrection, (b) When traveling in a Northerly or Southerly direction, (c) When traveling in a Northerly or Southerly direction, (d) When traveling in an Easterly or Westerly direction, The points at or near which said motor vehicle shall be for traffic on these streets proceeding upon the assumption that these streets are protected by boulevard stops to pass these unprotected intersections, resulting in property damage and loss of life. ABSENT : Councilmen , None. and Steele.
