BACKGROUND INFORMATION: These budgeted items are planned to replace two heavy iron backstops in use since at least 1951. While the iron backstops have served the basketball programs for years, they require at least 10 workers to install and remove. The new portable units are easier to move, requiring only two or three workers to set up, and they incor- porate safety features not found on the older backstops. Some of the newer features (in addition to transportability) include greater clearance from backboard to base, better shock absorption, breakaway rims, and better operator control over backboard height adjustments. FUNDING: 10.0-752.01-510 (1997-98) Estimated Cost: $18,000 - BID OPENING: October 1, 1997 Ronald Williamson, Director, Parks & Recreation APPROVED: H.
