AGENDA TITLE: Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for Maintenance of Landscape Areas
for Fiscal Year 1998/99
MEETING DATE: May 20, 1998
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications for the above
project and authorize advertising for bids.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project provides for the contract maintenance of 50
landscaped areas within the City and the White Slough Water
Pollution Control Facility. New optional bid items in these
specifications include the maintenance of the irrigation system for all locations, and when the
warranty expires, Downtown School Street area flower planting and weed control, and weed control
on the medians along Cherokee Lane.
The City has been contracting landscape maintenance since 1979. The most recent contract which
would have expired on June 30, 1998, was canceled in October 1997, due to poor contractor
performance. The contractor continued landscape maintenance on a month-to-month service
agreement. Given the contractor's marginal performance and the fact that the original contract
would have expired anyway, staff recommends the contract be let out to bid at this time.
FUNDING: The money for this project will be coming from the proposed 1998/99 Operating
Budget (10, 15, 17, 18 and 21 funds).
Original Project Estimate: $60,000
Original Plus Optional Project Estimate: $97,800
Budgeted: 1998/99 fiscal year
Planned Bid Opening Date: June 4, 1998
