MEETING DATE: May 20,1998 PREPARED BY: Special Projects Coordinator RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, in conjunction with the Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club and Christopher J. Olsen, American Express Financial Advisors, is sponsoring a program entitled Honoring Teens. The Lodi Youth Commission Leadership Committee selects one teen to be awarded Teen of the Month from the applications submitted to the commission from the general public, various schools, and church groups. This month's Teen of the Month is Derrick Graham from Tokay High School and the Honorary Teen of the Month is Erica Brizendine from Lodi Academy High. FUNDING: None Required. Derrick has given up wrestling and band, two activities that he greatly enjoyed, in order to work towards earning a scholarship. He has a Monday and Wednesday evening job in childcare. He is a Police Cadet volunteer, a Lodi Library volunteer and a volunteer worker at Grace Community Fellowship in the nursery and children's departments. At Grace Community Fellowship, Derrick is an active member of the youth program. Derrick is also a member of CSF and keeps GPA above 3.5. May Honorary Teen on the Month Erica Brizendine is a junior at Lodi Academy High. She was the past S.A. Social Vice President and is now S.A. President. She is also very active with the yearbook.
