AGENDA ITEM
AGENDA TITLE: Presentation and Discussion Regarding Lodi Police Department Pistol Range
MEETING DATE: August 16, 2016
PREPARED BY: Chief of Police
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation and Discussion Regarding Lodi Police Department
pistol range.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Lodi Police Department currently utilizes a gun range located in
the basement of the old Police Department building. It is in a terrible
state of disrepair.
The department uses this range for monthly SWAT qualifications, officer practice, and quarterly firearm
qualifications. Citizens who hold a Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permit also use the range for
qualifications. The range is in need of several repairs, including updated shooting lanes, soundproofing,
ceiling repairs and increased ventilation.
The department plans to discuss the feasibility of a new outdoor range facility to be located at White
Slough. There are several benefits to having both an indoor and outdoor range; the department will no
longer need to travel to other ranges to practice and qualify with AR -15 rifles thus reducing staff overtime
and peripheral costs. An outdoor range also allows the department more flexibility to train and qualify.
The department would like to conclude the presentation with an optional tour of the range for all
Councilmembers.
FISCAL IMPACT. Not applicable.
FUNDING AVAILABLE: Not applicable.

FUTURE LPD OUTDOOR RANGE
Twice a year the department travels to the Linden
Range to practice and qualify with our AR -15 patrol
rifles, in addition to routine SWAT practice with entry
rifles and sniper rifles.
Looking to the future, we are exploring the possibility of
building our own outdoor range on city property in the
White Slough area. This would be a great benefit, since
every officer, detective, and SWAT operator is being
issued their own AR -15 rifle, which cannot be fired at
our indoor range.

Afternoon Pam,
Regarding the subject for the August 16th Short Sleeve Session that I, June Aaker approve of the council's decision to
accept the proposal by Lodi Police Chief Tod Patterson. After reviewing the presentation and photos furnished it is
clearly going to be a benefit, not only the Police Department but also the Community of Lodi. No longer will our tax
dollars be used at an outdoor range. The city can keep, maintain and also now have the benefit of evening/night
exercises at the outdoor range.
I appreciate the opportunity to review the presentation by Chief Patterson. In reading, I also learned that those in the
community looking to have a CCW qualifications can also use the facilities. Looking forward to the City Councils
response.
Sincerely and respectfully,
June Atwood Aaker
