AGENDA TITLE: Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for White Slough Water Pollution Control
Facility Replacement of Fiberglass Effluent Troughs

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications and authorize
advertisement for bids for replacement of the primary sedimentation
basin effluent troughs at White Slough Water Pollution Control Facility.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project consists of replacing the four 30+ -year-old effluent
troughs for primary sedimentation basins #1 and #2. The facility
presently operates five primary sedimentation basins. The three
newer basins, built in 1975 and 1989, are equipped with fiberglass
troughs and the two older basins, built in 1967, have steel troughs.
The 30 -year-old, galvanized steel troughs are corroding at the waterline and have developed holes
ranging in size from 1/2 to 1 inch. Because the newer non -corrosive fiberglass troughs are working
effectively and are holding up well, we propose to replace the steel troughs with fiberglass. Installation
will be performed by facility operational and maintenance staff. This project is included in the current
Capital Improvement Budget as "White Slough Primary Sedimentation Tanks".
The specifications are on file in the Public Works Department.
FUNDING: The money for this project will be coming from the 1997/99 Wastewater Capital
Improvement Budget.
Project Estimate: $25,000
Planned Bid Opening Date: May 21, 1998
