RECOMMENDED ACTION: Lodi Animal Shelter Facility tour.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Shirtsleeve Session will convene at the Lodi Animal Shelter
Facility, located at 1345 West Kettleman Lane.
The Lodi Animal Shelter was built in the 1960s and served as a temporary holding facility for stray
animals. The facility is now being used as a holding and housing facility for animals. Staff and
volunteers provide care for the animals and while promoting and conducting animal adoptions.
A portable structure was added to the facility in 2001 and serves as the Animal Shelter Office. Space in
the original facility was converted to provide more housing for adoptable animals. In 2006 the People
Assisting Lodi Shelter (PALS) added a portable structure and opened an adoption center staffed by
PALS volunteers. In 2008, a dog exercise yard was constructed at the facility which was also funded
through the PALS volunteer program.
A brief presentation of the Animal Shelter layout and services will be provided. Attendees will gain insight
into what happens to injured, lost or found pets; the pet adoption process; responsible pet ownership and
the basic care of shelter animals. Attendees will tour the Animal Shelter facility including main animal
housing facility, PALS Adoption Center, and the shelter's dog exercise yard.
