AGENDA TITLE: Contract Change Orders for Hutchins Street Square Conference and Performing Arts Center,
125 South Hutchins Street

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In accordance with the Contract Change Order Policy, the City Council is being
informed of change orders approved by the City Manager for this project since
the March 4, 1998 meeting.
The original contract for this project was $8,262,010.00. The total cost of change orders to date is $1,011,104.60, or
12.2%. The project is approximately 99 percent complete. Detailed below is a complete description of the work
involved in the new change orders. More detailed descriptions and backup information for these change orders is
available in the Public Works Department. Change orders No. 78 through No. 83 are for the additions of major items
in the project per previous Council approval. These items were in the original project design but were withheld from
the project bid so that sufficient contingency funds were available to the project.
Change Order No. 78 - This is for the addition of "Theatrical Lighting Fixtures" (spotlights, etc.) to the
contract. ($83,450.67)
Change Order No. 79 - This change order is for the addition of "Theatrical Draperies" (main curtain, etc.)
to the contract. ($44,360.35)
Change Order No. 80 - This change order covers the cost of adding the "Orchestra Enclosure" (acoustical
shell for the stage area) to the contract. ($179,720.53)
Change Order No. 81- This change order covers the cost of adding "Site Landscaping" to the contract.
($275,318.80)
Change Order No. 82 - This change order is for adding the "Amphitheater" to the contract. ($187,022.00)
Change Order No. 83- This change order covers the cost of adding "Conference Center Furnishings" to
the contract. ($57,000.00)
Qhange Order No. 84 - This change order covers the cost of widening the west side of Hutchins Street,
between Oak and Walnut streets, and placing new sidewalk and street lights. Funding for this change
was provided from the street funds per previous Council approval. ($159,599.73)
FUNDING: There are sufficient funds budgeted in the Hutchins Street Square Conference and Performing Arts
Center account to cover these seven change orders. The total contract to date is $9,273,114.60.
