Lawrence presiding and the following the other members of the Board being present: F. O. Hale, C. A Rich, and L. Villinger Absent: J. M. Blodgett The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The report of the City Marshal for the month of July was read, approved and ordered filed. The report of the Secretary of the Board of Library Trustees for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1909 was read & laid on the table. The following applications for building permits were read and granted: Hugh Roach, Gymnasium on Lots 1 & 2 of Block 10 Barnhart Tract. C. A. Bright, Dwelling on Lot 5 of Block 2 Hutchins Addition Jms. Acker, Remodeling of Dwg. at 702 N. Church St. The application of F. B. Whyers for permission to cut trees on Elm & School St. was referred to the St. Supt. The following claims against the City were allowed and ordered paid: Wright, T. Glenn Lamps 6.30 Page, P. F. Work on Assessment Roll 12.50 McMahon, J. M. 62.00 Total Claims Allowed 603.60 218 In the matter of the appointment of a Library Trustee vice Mrs. C. W. Kern resigned and E. G. Williams and W. P. Grant terms expired: the President of the Board of Trustees, by and with the consent of said Board, made the following appointments: Wilson, H. Thompson, vice Mrs. C. W. Kern, resigned; E. Guy Williams, vice E. G. Williams term expired; W. P. Grant, vice W. P. Grant, term expired. Ordinance No. 40 Ordinance No. 40, entitled, "An Ordinance Regulating the Speed of Animals, Wagons, Buggies, Carriages, Sulkies, Bicycles, Automobiles, Motor Cars, Railroad Cars, Cars, Locomotives, Motor Vehicles and other vehicles in, On, Along or Across Public Streets or Ways; And Repealing Sections Seven and Eleven of Ordinance No. Nine; and partially Repealing Section One of Ordinance No Seventeen," was introduced, read and upon motion regularly made, seconded and carried, the Ordinance was laid on the table for a period of not less than five days exclusive of the day of introduction. Trustees Hale and Villinger were appointed a Committee to arrange for Speed Signs as follows: "Slow Down to 10 Miles." Messrs. Newell and Broadhurst, Civil Engineers of 321 Elks Bldg., Stockton, were present, and entered into an informal discussion of the proposed City Improvements. It was moved, seconded and carried that this Board do now adjourn to reconvene on Monday evening, Aug. 9, 1909 Attest: J. M. McMahon City Clerk 219
