HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - May 25, 1908Public Hall, Lodi California, May 25, 1908 The Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in adjourned regular session pursuant to adjournment of May 18, 1908, President G. E. Lawrence presiding and the following other members of the Board being present: J. M. Blodgett, F. O. hale, C. A. Rich and Leon Villinger. The minutes of the meeting of May 18, 1908 were read and approved as read. Ordinance No 33 Ordinance No 33, entitled, "An Ordinance Additionally Declaring the Result of a Special Election Held May Fourth, 1908, and Providing for the Issuance, Sale and Redemption of Bonds of the City of Lodi in the Sum of Fifty Thousand Dollars for a Sewer System with Sewer Plant and in the Sum Of Seventy Six Thousand Dollars for a Combined Plant for Supplying said City and its Inhabitants with Water and Electric Light," having been read and introduced on May 18, 1908, and laid on the table for a period of not less than five days exclusive of the day of introduction, was read and placed on passage. It was regularly moved by Trustee J. M. Blodgett and seconded by Trustee C. A. Rich that Ordinance no 33 be adopted as read. The motion was carried by the following vote: Ayes: J. M. Blodgett, F. O. Hale, G. E. Lawrence, C. A. Rich and Leon Villinger. Noes: None Absent: None Whereupon the said Ordinance was signed, approved and attested by G. E. Lawrence as President of the Board and Executor of said City. The Application of R. L. Patton for permission to erect a Dance Platform at the comer of Sacramento and Walnut Streets, having been laid on the table, was taken up and a motion made and seconded that the permit be granted. Protest signed by several residents of that part of town was read. Mr. Patton made a statement that he had run a platform on West Walnut Street for five seasons without complaint. The motion was carried and a permit granted. The following applications for Building Permits were read and granted: P E. Linster, Dwelling on W. Locust St. S. E. Walters Dwelling on Barnhart Tract, Mrs. E. Jensen, Dwelling on Lot 4 of Block 11 Hutchins Addition Jas, Wherity, Dwelling on Lot 4 of Block 11 Hutchins Addition Jas. Callanhan, Private Barn for Catholic Block 5 Hutchins Addition Election Returns. 135 Resolution No. 18 The Board then proceeded to canvass the returns of the Prohibition Election of May 12, 1908, and introduced Resolution no 18 declaring the result of said election as follows: Resolution No. 18 Whereas, on the 12th day of May, 1908 the sense of the Electors of the City of Lodi was taken on the question of Licensing the sale of intoxicating liquors in the City of Lodi and Whereas the Board of Trustees for the City of Lodi have convened at their usual place of meeting in the City Hall of the City of Lodi this 25th day of May, 1908, in adjourned regular session, and have canvassed the returns of said election: now Therefore, on canvass of said returns, The Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi do declare as follows: That there was but one precinct, and the whole number of ballots cast was Five Hundred and Eighty Three; That the proposition voted upon was; shall the sale of alcoholic or intoxication liquor as a beverage be license: That the number of votes cast in favor of said proposition was Three Hundred and Forty Two; That the number of votes cast against said proposition was Two Hundred and Thirty Three; That the number of votes cast in favor of said proposition exceeded the number of votes cast against said proposition One Hundred and Nine Votes; that the licensing of sale of intoxication liquor as a beverage has been approved by the Electors of the City of Lodi. McMahon City Clerk In report to the matter of the Traction Co. grading South Sacramento St. the Clerk was instructed to request Mr. Clary to draw the necessary agreement. It was regularly moved that Mr. Edward E. Breitenbucker be employed to procure rights of way through the alleys that were not dedicated to the public. The motion was seconded and carried.
