The board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in adjourned regular session pursuant
to adjournment of July 22°d.1907. President Lawrence presiding and the following
Trustees being present: Blodgett, Hale, Rich, and Villinger.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
A Communication from the Producers Fruit Co. enclosing statement of taxable property
was read and ordered filed.
Dr. Tennyson requested information regarding Ordinance No 26 in relation to awarding
prizes private Card Parties. The President stated in reply that such matters would be for
Judiciary decision and that The Board could not pass upon same; however, the Board had
no intention of interfering with home pastimes.
Application of W. A. Young for a Building Permit read and on motion regularly made
seconded and carried the permit was granted.
Application of W. J. Robinson for a Building permit read and on motion regularly made,
seconded and carried, the permit was granted.
Application of John Wallace for a permit to maintain a Bootblack stand in front of the
Pioneer Barber Shop, referred to Marshal Coleman for report, Mr. Coleman stated that no
objections were offered by the neighboring merchants. The matter was then taken up and
motion made that the permit be granted, seconded and on vote being taken, the motion
was lost and request refused.
Unfinished Business. The matter regarding the Carnegie Library was taken up and a
motion made that we include in our budget and set aside one and one fourth (1 %4) mill
for the maintenance of a Carnegie Library seconded and on vote taken, Blodgett Aye,
Rich, Villinger, and Hale No. Motion lost.
Motion made that the City pledge itself to the amount of one (1) mill for the maintenance
of a Carnegie Library, seconded. Vote: Blodgett, Hale and Rich, Aye. Villinger, no.
Ordinance no 27 referred to President Lawrence to confer with Mr. E. I. Jones was read
by President Lawrence. Mr. Rich made a motion to lay on the table for not less than 5
days, or until next regular meeting, seconded and carried.
The matter of Sewerage for the City was discussed at some length and referred to the
Committee of the Whole, to ascertain the possible cost manner of disposal, etc. and to
have the matter in shape to place before the people at the next regular election.
No further business coming before the Board. The Board on motion regularly made,
seconded and carried, adjourned.
