The board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in regular session, President
Lawrence presiding and the following Trustees being present: Blodgett, Hale, Rich and
Villinger.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved
Report of the Committee of the Whole read.
Then, by courtesy of the Board, the following persons spoke in behalf of an anti -saloon
ordinance; J. C. Murphy, A. J. Seale, T. H. Murray and Mrs. F. M. Washburn.
The Motion was then put and carried by a unanimous vote and so ordered.
Mr. A. Friedburger then appeared before the Board and stated that the business men had
subscribed $850 for the purpose of purchasing fire fighting apparatus and that there had
also been subscribed $140 for a fire bell. After remarks by W. H. Thompson, W. W.
Henderson and H. E. Welsh, the matter was referred to the Committee of the Whole.
Ordinance No. 21;
Ordinance No 21, entitled "An Ordinance Regulating the Fire Department of the City of
Lodi and to Provide for Better Protection Against Fires Therein", were then read and
introduced.
It was then moved by J. M.Blodgett and seconded by L. Villinger that we tender a vote of
thanks to Mayor Gardner and Fire Department of the City of Stockton for their prompt
response to our call for aid in our fire of Apr. 13, and that we ascertain if any expense
attached to the efforts; and that a copy of this motion be sent to Mayor Gardner and the
check of the Stockton Fire Department.
Carried unanimously, so ordered.
Petition of A. F. Cavanaugh for a Saloon License read, and on motion regularly made,
seconded and carried. The petition was granted and the Clerk instructed to issue the
license.
Petition of M. D. Duffy for a Saloon License read, and on motion regularly made,
seconded and carried the petition was granted and the Clerk instructed to issue the
license.
Petition of Russill Bros. for a Saloon License read, and on motion regularly made,
recorded and carried, the petition was granted and the Clerk instructed to issue the
Licenses.
No further business coming before the Board then on motion regularly made, seconded
and carried, adjourned to reconvene on Monday evening, April 22, 1907.
