The board of Trustees of the City of Lodi reconvened in adjourned regular session
pursuant to adjournment of Feby. 6, 1907, President Lawrence presiding.
Present: Lawrence, Blodgett, Villinger, Hale and Rich.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr. J. Harry Lillie, local manager of the Pacific Telephone Company appeared before the
Board and stated that he would like to have the License of the Telephone Co. reduced to
$15 per quarter. The matter was laid on the table and taken up later and discussed, then
the clerk was instructed to notify Mr. Lillie that it was the sense of the board that no
change be made in the rate of license.
Mr. Whyers appeared before the Board and stated that he had a number of teams engaged
in hauling dirt from the basement of his proposed building and that if these teamsters
were obliged to take out a license, they would quit and he could not get his work done.
President Lawrence stated that it was the sense and intent of the Board that the Teaming
and Draying License applied only to such parties as made a business of teaming or
draying.
Mr. Whyers asked permission to place some dirt upon the streets adjacent to his property.
His request was granted.
Ordinance No. 5, fixing salaries of City Officers, was then read, and laid on the table for
one week.
Mr. J. W. Dougherty stated that the Central California Traction Company would
establish a grade for the City on Sacramento Street from Lockeford Street to the point
where the Traction Company's line intersected with Sacramento Street in the Southern
part of the City, and also as far West as their lines extended through the City; that if such
grade was adopted by the Board of Trustees as the official grade of the City, there would
be no charge to the City for the services of the Traction Company & Engineers.
The proposition was not accepted by the Board.
President Lawrence stated that he had appeared before the Woman's Improvement Club
by invitation; and that the club wished to place signs designating the name of the streets
upon the street corners; that if the board would establish the methods of numbering and
would name those streets not already named the Improvement Club would have signs
printed and posted at the street corners.
No further business coming before the Board, the Board then adjourned.
